The Matthew Stafford-Detroit Lions marriage appears headed toward an amicable separation.
The Lions and their franchise quarterback have agreed to part ways, and the team will seek trade offers for Stafford, according to multiple reports on Saturday evening.
With the Lions set for a rebuild under a new regime after three consecutive last-place finishes in the NFC North, Stafford presumably is ready to move on to a contender.
The Lions hired Dan Campbell as head coach on Wednesday and Brad Holmes as general manager last week.
Stafford, who will be 33 in February, was the Lions' No. 1 overall pick out of Georgia in 2009.
