Tyson names three opponents he wants to face before retiring for good

Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson reveals his grand plan to face old rivals Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield this year, followed by an exhibition with Tyson Fury before quitting boxing for GOOD

  • Mike Tyson came out of retirement for an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr
  • ‘Iron Mike’ has a taste for competition again and fancies more high level fights
  • He wants Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Tyson Fury to step in with him

Mike Tyson has outlined his grand plan to fight three legends of the sport before walking away to enjoy his life.

The legendary American heavyweight made his comeback in an exhibition draw against Roy Jones Jr last November in a bout that generated £58million in pay-per-view buys.

And the 54-year-old has a taste for the sweet science again, revealing who he wants to step inside the ring with before he hangs his gloves up for good.

‘I want Holyfield and I want Lennox Lewis this year,’ he revealed on his Hotboxin’ Podcast.

‘I want both of them, I want to get them both this year. I also want to box an exhibition with Tyson Fury.

‘If I do that – even if I can get those two guys [Lewis and Holyfield], I’ll say, “This is a wrap, I’m just gonna live life.”

‘And that’s just exhibitions. I’m gonna break all my professional true records with exhibitions.’

Tyson clearly is motivated by exacting revenge over Holyfield and Lewis, both of whom defeated him.

Holyfield stopped Tyson in the 11th round of their 1996 encounter and the infamous rematch in June the following year saw Tyson disqualified for biting his opponent’s ear.

Tyson vs Lewis took place in 2002 and the British Canadian defended his WBC, IBF, IBO and Ring titles with an eighth round KO.

In terms of a money-spinning exhibition with Tyson Fury, it remains to be seen how serious that match-up could be.

The ‘Gypsy King’ is preparing to face Anthony Joshua in one of the most anticipated heavyweight showdowns of all time, having agreed a two-fight deal.
