Promoter Bob Arum compares Deontay Wilder to Donald Trump, insisting the former heavyweight champion is ‘irresponsible’ and ‘not making any sense’ in his excuses for losing to Tyson Fury
- Deontay Wilder was dominated by Tyson Fury in the pair’s rematch a year ago
- The American has been reeling off excuses for his humiliating loss since then
- Wilder blamed his ring-walk costume, his trainer and Fury cheating for the defeat
- Bob Arum has no interest in the Bronze Bomber’s excuses and slammed the star
Bob Arum is buying none of Deontay Wilder’s excuses since his rematch humiliation against Tyson Fury, blasting the American for Donald Trump-like dishonesty.
The Gypsy King was robbed on the score-cards in the pair’s first fight – ending as a draw – despite being dropped in the final round, before making amends a year ago with a masterclass against the big-hitting Bronze Bomber.
Since then, Wilder hasn’t stopped moaning. The weight of the glitzy £31,000 costume he donned for the ring-walk supposedly drained his energy, a bicep injury sustained mid-fight held him back and the American’s trainer was accused of spiking his drink and chucking the towel in too early.

Perhaps most scandalous was Wilder’s claim that Fury’s gloves were padded for additional weight, a highly dangerous form of cheating inside the ring.
‘Deontay Wilder has been spoiled by our former president Donald Trump who says you can say any lie, or any preposterous thing and maybe some people believe it,’ legendary promoter Arum told TalkSport.
‘In Trump’s case, they believed it and stormed the capital. Deontay Wilder, again, irresponsible what he’s saying, totally.
‘Whether it’s about Tyson Fury, Mark Breland – a tremendous guy – Deontay Wilder is not making any sense.
The legendary promoter has heard enough of the Bronze Bomber’s waffling since last year
‘But hey, if the former president who served for four years doesn’t make sense, I mean Deontay Wilder is just another Trumpian.’
Wilder is desperate to complete the trilogy with Fury, hoping to activate the clause for a third bout in the pair’s fight contract.
The Gypsy King has lost interest though, taking aim at Anthony Joshua and unifying the heavyweight division in 2021.
