Ebanie Bridges says lingerie weigh-ins are "like a bodybuilding competition"

Ebanie Bridges has explained her lingerie weigh-in outfits by insisting that they are "like a bodybuilding competition".

The Blonde Bomber is known for stripping down to her underwear at her pre-fight weigh-ins, often to the embarrassment of her promoter Eddie Hearn. She has even taken the opportunity to poke fun at Hearn, who is regularly caught straining to look away as she takes her clothes off and poses in her lingerie on the scales.

Now, though, Bridges has defended her decision to wear lingerie at weigh-ins, explaining she does it “because I f***ing love it” and that “it’s the whole thing” that pulls in her views, not just her outfits.

She also asked "why would I go and buy f***ing underwear that I would never wear again?" as she hit back at critics of her weigh-in outfits.

Speaking to The Sun, Bridges exclaimed: "For me, wearing a nice matching lingerie set is just like wearing a bikini like I did on stage.

"I am standing there owning what I look like, and showing off my body that I've worked so hard to get.

"I want to be myself and go and enjoy that one moment. A weigh-in for me is like a bodybuilding competition. I do my hair and make-up, wear a cute little g-string, and smile for the cameras.

"It has absolutely nothing to do with, 'oh, this is going to sell'. Thankfully it does. What I like to do sells. How I like to fight sells. But it's just me being me and doing what I want to do.”

Bridges, who also worked as a ring girl earlier in her career, claimed her maiden world title last month by beating Maria Cecilia Roman via unanimous decision in Leeds.

Her victory, which earned her the IBF bantamweight world title, moved her to 8-1 as a professional, with her sole loss coming in her only previous title fight against Shannon Courtenay in April last year.

While she no longer works as a ring girl, the 35-year-old does combine her boxing exploits with her role as a high school maths teacher in her native Australia.
