On Christmas Day, the Celtics and Bucks will meet for the third time this season.
Their first matchup needed overtime to decide the outcome. Milwaukee was playing without superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo or Khris Middleton, but Boston was also missing Jaylen Brown.
Grayson Allen poured in 21 points, including a clutch 3-pointer to send the game into overtime, while Bobby Portis added 22 points and Jrue Holiday had a 17-point, 13-assist double-double. However, their efforts weren’t enough to overcome a season-high 38 points from Celtics guard Dennis Schroder and a 27-point, 11-rebound double-double from Jayson Tatum.
More recently, just two weeks ago on Dec. 13, these teams met at near-full strength and the Celtics still came away with the win, taking both games in the series thus far. This time, it was Tatum who stepped up to pour in a season-high 42 points, knocking down seven 3-pointers on the night.
It was Brown’s first game back following a five-game absence due to a hamstring injury and the All-Star guard added 19 points. Antetokounmpo had a relatively quiet night with just 20 points and eight rebounds, while Middleton had one of his worst games of the season, scoring just four points.
